Joyride - Jack Storer

First film = Joyride

1. Genre
the genre of this film is thriller, we can tell this by the uses of iconography.
-blood -police -weapons
also the content is a man getting kidnapped with an unknown plot which builds suspence.

2.
they uniquely used the soundtrack to build up tension. this non diegetic sound was electric, fast tempo and helped build the films suspence up. also the fact that the restricted storyline and camera work we almost have the p.o.v of the man in the boot. as alot of the action took place off screen. we didn't witness the policemen get killed but the use of off screen diegetic sound and the shot from inside the boot where the screw driver stabs through the boot and the blood drips in. this all builds up a really convincing story and really positions us on the side of the male protagonist.

3.
the short film format was used really effectively as the loose ends of the story where not tied up. this saved a lot of time for the main event. yet it still had a start middle and end. I really like this idea and think we will definitely take this and try and use this in our piece. a full length film is criticised for having too many unclosed storylines but I believe with short films this makes them more interesting. 'Enigma'

4.sound.
use of drums, and electric soundtrack added a lot of tension. the off screen diegetic sound was really effective as it really played the audience as if we where trapped inside the car.

5.
the themes and issues of this include
-murder
-kidnapping
and the fact that there are people like that out there.

I think the representation of the bad guys was quite stereotypical as where the police. such as the joke about the cigarette. yet the working class electrician goes against these stereotypes. he uses a couple of very clever and tactical tricks to draw the attention of the police and finally succeeds in escaping.
